Micheline Mathieu is a Charente-based painter whose work has evolved from figurative village scenes to expressive, contemporary abstraction. Through texture, light and carefully structured compositions, she creates emotionally resonant spaces shaped by colour and rhythm.

Micheline Mathieu lives and works in Theil-Rabier, Charente. She has painted since the age of 14, first self-taught and later as a professional. Educated through the study of great masters in museums, exhibitions, and Parisian studios, she continued to develop her artistic practice throughout her career as a chief accountant, before dedicating herself fully to painting some thirty years ago.
Initially recognised for her Charente village scenes, she gradually moved away from descriptive painting to express more personal emotions. Still lifes and familiar objects — earthenware jugs, old bottles — become elements in dialogue within carefully structured compositions, enriched by subtle treatments of texture and transparency.
Over time, her research has led her toward a contemporary abstraction in which matter, colour and light shape the pictorial space. Her work opens a sensitive universe where rhythm and form invite an intimate and emotional response from the viewer.

Micheline Mathieu vit et travaille à Theil-Rabier, en Charente. Elle peint depuis l’âge de 14 ans, d’abord en autodidacte puis en professionnelle. Formée au contact des grands maîtres à travers les musées, expositions et ateliers parisiens, elle a nourri sa pratique tout au long de sa carrière de chef comptable, qu’elle a quittée il y a une trentaine d’années pour se consacrer entièrement à la peinture.
Connue pour ses villages charentais, elle a progressivement délaissé une peinture descriptive pour exprimer ses émotions personnelles. Natures mortes et objets anciens — cruches, bouteilles, formes familières — deviennent des éléments de dialogue au sein de compositions rigoureuses, mises en valeur par un travail subtil des matières et des transparences.
Au fil des années, sa recherche picturale l’a menée vers une abstraction contemporaine où matière, couleur et lumière structurent l’espace. Son œuvre ouvre un univers sensible, où formes et rythmes invitent le regard à une expérience intérieure faite d’émotions et de résonances personnelles.
