Meet Henry Martin: a featured artist at Galerie 16

A self-taught artist inspired by the rural landscapes of France, he paints the scenes he encounters during his daily walks, transforming simple observations of nature into expressive and personal works.

About Henry Martin

English:

When he was eight years old, his parents gave him a book on drawing cartoon animals — a gift that turned a simple interest into a lifelong obsession.

For many years he followed another calling, serving as a priest and prison chaplain. In recent years, however, he returned to his first vocation and became a full-time artist.

Today he paints whatever is before him. Living in rural France, he finds constant inspiration in the landscapes he encounters during his daily walks with his dogs. These familiar scenes — fields, paths and changing light — become the starting point for his paintings.
