About Jocelyn

English:

Jocelyn Bridge is a contemporary artist working from her atelier in the Charente region of France. Her expressive paintings carry a quiet energy, evoking memories of time and place.

Born in Scotland, Jocelyn has drawn and painted throughout her life. She moved to England to study Landscape Architecture and later worked as a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer, continuing to draw and paint alongside her professional career. More than twenty years ago she moved permanently to France, where she now devotes herself fully to painting.

Deeply connected to the environment around her, Jocelyn often works outdoors, painting en plein air. She seeks to capture fleeting moments in the landscape — the shifting light, the movement of wind, and the subtle sounds of a place.

Her sketchbooks play an important role in this process. Through bold gestures and quick marks she records impressions of atmosphere and movement. Back in the studio these observations evolve into paintings built intuitively in layers. Strong underlying design structures each work, while energetic mark-making and harmonious colours invite the viewer to bring their own interpretation.
